fire ants - my enemy

a few weeks ago i made the brilliant decision to mow the lawn in my flip flops. as i came to one corner of the yard i paused to make the two point turn when my foot starting stinging. i had stopped and stood directly on top of an ant hill. my left foot was covered in the mean little pests biting me everywhere. the worst, between the toes. it took awhile for them just not to itch. still today i bear the marks of their assault.

yesterday, after i got done hedging all the bushes so we could put up our spooky spider webbing, i reminded the kids not to step on the big ant hill in the flower bed. not two seconds later, my right foot begins to burn. fire ants again, this time all over my right foot and just past my ankle. i managed to step right into another hidden lair underneath the wood chips. are you kidding me was all i could muster i was so mad. i haven't even fully recovered from the first attack.

there has been so much rain lately they're everywhere. i can't keep up. i'm out of ant stuff and all i had left was the instant death spray. this worked on the surface but i could see them crawling around underneath, scrambling to find another place to call home. i think i may need to spread the lawn and beds with fire ant granules again. i was hoping that season was over.
